THANK YOU NYS 42ND DISTRICT!
Dear Friends,
On November 7, more than 83,000 people in Sullivan, Delaware, Orange and Ulster
counties cast their votes in the State Senate Election. While we may have come
up short this time around, we ran a credible campaign that forced the
Republicans to spend over a million dollars to defend their seat and their
issues. More importantly, we made the Republicans sit up and take notice.
When we started this race, all the odds were against us. We were pitted against
a 16- year incumbent with a massive war chest and huge name recognition. All of
us understood what was at stake -- the future direction of our State and
Country.
In the end, money beat out grass roots efforts. While we might have been
significantly out-spent by my opponent, I am so proud that we ran a clean and
truthful campaign.
With your help, we were able to run a serious campaign; we raised almost
$300,000 to get our message out to voters. We talked about the need to reform
our state government in order to make real progress on issues like property
taxes, health care, education, campaign finance reform, sustainable jobs and a
healthy environment.
Without your help and that of thousands of friends, old and new, who donated
time, money and love to my campaign, I would never have made it this far. This
was truly a team effort.
We formed strong partnerships with Eliot Spitzer, Hillary Clinton, The Sierra
Club, The League of Conservation Voters, Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy, Emily's
list, The Teamsters and other groups.
We produced a great TV ad, received important endorsements and help from teams
of volunteers to get out the vote. I am touched and moved by the support from
wonderful friends like you.
It truly has been an honor and a privilege to run for statewide office and I end
this campaign wiser than I began. I look forward to spending time with my
family and friends and I am deeply indebted for their unflinching patience and
encouragement.
Once again, thank you for your commitment to my campaign and to building a
better New York State. I am proud to continue to serve as an Ulster County
Legislator, working to find solutions that will benefit all our communities.
Thank you for everything you have done to help. I am deeply touched and forever
grateful.
Yours truly,
Susan Zimet

WOODSTOCK TIMES ENDORSES SUSAN ZIMET
Bacon vs. Trust
October 26, 2006
"We basically like our elected representatives to be out front, to be concise in
their positions. We don't fault Bonacic for his constituent services, but
that's the basic, the 101 of being a legislator, and besides, all that pork is
just a share of the money we've paid in taxes. There has to be more to it
than that, some vision and leadership, and the people of the 42nd Senatorial
district would be better served in these regards with Susan Zimet as our
elected representative."

STATEMENT BY 42ND DISTRICT STATE SENATE CANDIDATE SUSAN
ZIMET ON PATAKI'S SIGNING OF BILL S-8349A (NEW PALTZ, NY)
"Being against the NYRI project, I wish the Bonacic bill would solve the problem
-- and if it was ever feasible, I would be the first to applaud it.
Unfortunately, Pataki's signing of the bill offers only false hope to those who
actually want to take NYRI off the table. Thanks to the Bonacic bill, the stage
is set for a long, expensive legal battle -- on the taxpayers dime -- which
could end with the federal government using its powers granted in the Energy
Act of 2005 to just take the land anyway. The only way to truly keep NYRI out
of our backyards is to get Albany to approve the already-cleared and hidden New
Jersey corridor." -- Susan Zimet
